Scripture Union Daily Guide 22 December 2025 Outline

God saved the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, led them through the wilderness and took them to the Promised Land. Read Hosea 13:1-6 and see how, in their prosperity, they forgot about all God had done for them and turned to idol worship. In short, since they despised God, He was about to show them how much of a consuming fire He can be. He, who was once their shepherd, would now come upon them like a lion and like a leopard to attack and devour them (Hosea 13:7-8, compare Hebrews 12:29).

These days, most people do not worship cast idols like they did then. We modernize idol worship when we allow families, occupation, material wealth, etc. to take the place of God in our lives. When we forget about God’s goodness and all He is to us but instead we turn our backs on Him, we incur His wrath.
Read Hosea 13:12-16 and see how one tribe’s individual sin is affecting the nation. God is about to destroy them and will show no mercy. They will bear the consequences of their action.

And So
Our actions should not arouse God’s anger. “Shall we continue to sin that grace may abound?” (Romans 6:1).
